Cataract Medisave and insurance – is it claimable? How much?
Cataract causes the eye’s natural lens become cloudy. Consequently, vision deteriorates. Cataract surgery has two steps: cataract removal and Intraocular Lens (IOL) implantation. IOLs treat myopia, astigmatism, and presbyopia. That being said, a cataract surgery treats both cataracts and refractive errors.
Cataract surgery is a medical procedure. As such, it is usually claimable.
Both LASIK and Cataract surgery can treat myopia, astigmatism, hyperopia, and presbyopia.
In most cases, LASIK is considered as a cosmetic procedure. By and large, Medisave and insurance do not cover LASIK fees.
On the other hand, cataract surgery is a medical procedure that is covered by Medisave and most insurance plans.
Unilateral (one eye) cataract surgery for adults falls under Table 4A. Bilateral (two eyes) cataract surgery is classified under Table 5A. Do provide the surgical code of your procedure to third parties. This makes it easier for your request to be processed. On 1st June 2009, the Ministry of Health (MOH) announced that patients will be able to claim up to $2,450 per eye from their Medisave for Cataract Surgery. Additionally, residual amounts can be claimed under insurance.
This depends on the insurance policy purchased. In general, most policies cover cataract surgery. Unfortunately, Lee Hung Ming Eye Centre does not have access to your personal insurance information. Your insurance agent will be able to advise you.
Most certainly! We can submit and process your outpatient cataract surgery claims. Please inform us of any Medisave and insurance claims in advance. For example, certain insurance providers require a 6 hour hospital stay for cataract surgery to be claimable. Once notified, we will make the necessary arrangements.
Any inpatient claims (cataract screening, post-op consultations) must be submitted by patients themselves. Your insurance agent will be able to assist you accordingly.
